Registration for the 10th edition is open. What can you look forward to?
In this article, we want to present news and changes for the 10th edition of the race Teatro Okolo Malohontu. However, plans have been fickle in recent years, which is why we consider each year special just because this cycling event actually managed to take place. We would like everything to be according to our expectations this year as well. However, we will evaluate how it all turns out together at the finish line. Registration of competitors has started and will be possible until September 7 or when the capacity of the event is filled.
The race route remains the same as the last 3 years. However, a major reconstruction of the intersection at the exit from Rimavská Sobota, through which the neutral start of the race leads, is planned. We will see if we have to change the initial kilometers behind the director vehicle because of this. Anyway, the sharp start behind the city of Rimavská Sobota will remain in effect.
All competitors who successfully reach the finish line will receive a finisher medal around their neck so that everyone can take home a souvenir of this jubilee edition.
The starter pack has never been our forte, in fact it’s never been a priority. We prefer to invest funds from the participation fee in securing the event and services for cyclists. Also this year, the package includes a starting number with pins, a lunch ticket, a timing chip and, thanks to our sponsor Davorin, also a PowerBar energy gel. In cooperation with the company Velore, riders can also order hand-made cycling bib shorts Classic for an additional fee of 49 euros.
A smaller goal is to mark the route and especially the KOM premiums with signs and banners and not with paint on the asphalt. We want the all riders to have the experience and feeling of a really big race.
We have changed the competition categories. Despite our efforts, we did not manage to attract a larger number of ladies last year, so unfortunately we are returning to only one women’s category. We regret that we have no one to hand our handmade ceramic trophies to on the podium. Due to long-term low interest, we are also canceling the under 18 years category. This year, our date also overlaps with the Slovak Junior Cup, so participation would also suffer for this reason. However, due to growing interest, we are adding a category for men over 65 years of age. This category, together with women, has a reduced entry fee of only 20 euros. We believe that as many of them as possible will be at the start.
We always try to set the participation fee as low as possible, this time it is 29 euros. Only just before the race, on Wednesday, September 6, it increases to 40 euros. We try to accommodate and give competitors as much time as possible to register under favorable conditions, even just before the event, when usually everyone can already plan the following weekend. However, it is very difficult for us organizers not to know how many participants we are actually preparing the race for, which is why we encourage registration by the fact that registration is no longer possible on the day of the race and the entry fee increases just before the event.
Without cyclists, the race has no meaning. Our dream is to have 200 participants at the start line this year. The limit is therefore set to this number. We believe that you will repay our 10 years of work in organizing this beautiful race and that we will be able to achieve this goal together.
